The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Rs 175 crore to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) under the 'Suvarna Jayanti Nagar Punruthhan Urban Renewal' scheme.
Disclosing this at a joint news conference here today, KMC commissioner Vijay Singhal, city mayor Sagar Chavan and Congress MLA Satej Patil said the amount was sactioned today in a meeting between state and KMC officials in Mumbai.

Chief minister Ashok Chavan on Saturday said he had not promoted SRK's film My Name is Khan and was only doing his duty of ensuring that its release in Mumbai was safe.
He was reacting to an editorial in the Shiv Sena's mouthpiece, Saamna, on Saturday, which slammed him for deploying 22,000 policemen to ensure the safe release of the movie.
Saamna said that the ATS in Gujarat had recently interrogated terrorists who confessed that MNIK was being used propaganda material by terrorist organisations.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member in legislative council, Vinod Tawde on Saturday made serious allegations of corruption against the state government in Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects.
He alleged that a certain builder was given land at Goregaon for Rs150 crore less than the market price.
He also said that SRA projects are being cleared from a flat situated opposite chief minister Ashok Chavan's official bungalow Varsha and demanded clarification from the government.

The Maharashtra government has decided to set up a special cell to handle sex crimes against children.
It has also decided to move pending rape cases to a fast track court.

The Maharashtra government on Friday halved the entertainment duty to be paid by the organisers of various award functions and reality shows, while increasing the service charges on movie tickets.
The government, however, appears to be undecided over levying entertainment tax on the IPL.
